there is something about a graph that makes me immediately think of science class. this was the first clue that I was looking at something different. a reclaiming is a blend of photography and illustration; of art and science.
gould is exploring theories of science with his handwritten notations throughout the prints, but expands on it through photographs of performances which seem more like practical applications done by monty python, sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, but always entertaining. but he doesn't stop there. Illustrations extend from the photographic elements and become interesting pieces on their own, becoming birds in flight and tree roots, taking me throughout the composition without breaking from the central theme. each part compliments the other, explaining them while exploring them.
seemingly inspired by the parke-harrisons, gould sometimes seems to be trying to heal nature, sometimes simply exploring it through imagination and theoretics. I am drawn in by how seamless the two disparrate components are put together to make fully interesting images.
